# AI agent.

Definition

## What it _means._

An AI agent is software that uses a language model to pursue a goal through multiple steps and tools: reading systems, making bounded decisions, and taking actions, rather than answering a single prompt. A recurring process with clear rules is a candidate for automation; feasibility also depends on data quality, system access, exception handling, and acceptable error.

Worked example

## In _practice._

An intake agent reads inbound leads, enriches them, applies written scoring rules, and drafts replies. A person reviews exceptions and approves actions outside the agreed scope. If the manual process takes fifteen minutes per lead, the team measures the remaining review and correction time before claiming savings.
