# Model Context Protocol (MCP).

Definition

## What it _means._

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard for connecting AI applications to external tools and data through a common interface. It can reduce custom integration work across compatible clients. Authentication, authorization, and action limits still need to be implemented and tested.

Worked example

## In _practice._

A company exposes a bounded set of actions through an MCP server: check availability, request an audit, read public pricing. A compatible client can use the tools it supports and is authorized to access. The team tests those actions with its intended clients and enforces permissions and limits on the server.
