# Paywall optimization.

Definition

## What it _means._

Paywall optimization is systematic testing of where, when, and how an app asks for money: placement in the flow, offer structure, trial length, pricing, and the screen itself. Its priority depends on how many users reach the paywall and whether changes improve revenue without unacceptable effects on retention or experience.

Worked example

## In _practice._

An app shows its paywall at first launch to everyone. A test moves it after the first success moment for new users while keeping a hard gate for returning ones. The team compares trial starts, paid conversion, retention, and revenue for mature cohorts before calling the change a win.
