# Technical SEO.

Definition

## What it _means._

Technical SEO is the engineering layer of search visibility: crawlability, indexation, rendering, redirects, canonical URLs, sitemaps, structured data, and page speed. It does not create demand; it removes the failures that silently waste the demand a site has already earned.

Worked example

## In _practice._

A site migration leaves duplicate URLs, incorrect canonical tags, and a sitemap listing dead pages. A technical pass corrects the canonicals, regenerates the sitemap from real routes, and fixes redirect chains. The team verifies crawling and indexing afterward, then monitors search performance; repairing these defects does not guarantee recovered positions.
