# 14 Best AI SEO Tools in 2026 (and How to Use Them)

By [**Ian McGavin**](https://www.strataigize.com/about/team/ian/), Founder & CMO · Published September 18, 2025 · Updated September 5, 2026 · 14 min read

The best AI SEO tools in 2026 cover four jobs: content optimization (Surfer SEO, Clearscope, Frase), research and technical automation (Semrush, Ahrefs), AI writing assistants (Jasper, Copy.ai), and AI search visibility trackers such as Profound and Otterly.AI that show how ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews cite your brand. Most teams get better results from one tool per job, paired with a clear GEO strategy, than from a stack of overlapping subscriptions.

## Buy for a Job, Not a Category

AI tools can help with first drafts, search and keyword analysis, and SEO housekeeping such as internal linking and topic clustering. Which job you are hiring a tool for is the first question, because the tools below are specialists wearing similar marketing, and the most common buying mistake in this category is paying for three subscriptions that all do the same one.

## How to Use AI for SEO

Here is how to apply AI practically to your SEO strategy:

1. **Research Smarter** Beyond volume data, AI keyword tools uncover _search intent_ and long-tail opportunities. This helps you compete where traditional SEO would overlook.
2. **Create Optimized Content** Tools like Jasper and Surfer can support drafting and topic research. Review their output for accuracy, originality and usefulness; a tool score does not establish search performance.
3. **Automate Technical SEO** AI can scan for broken links, improve site architecture, and flag crawl issues that keep pages out of the index.
4. **Put Predictive Insights to Work** AI models can forecast where performance is heading, which buys you time to act before visibility slips. You get a warning, not a post-mortem.
5. **Optimize for Generative Search** As search shifts to conversational, **artificial intelligence SEO** still depends on useful, accessible pages. Clear answers and linked evidence help readers assess a claim; no special answer format guarantees AI inclusion. Learn more in our [Generative Engine Optimization deep dive](https://www.strataigize.com/insights/what-is-generative-engine-optimization/), or go a level deeper into the mechanism with [how generative engine optimization actually works](https://www.strataigize.com/insights/how-generative-engine-optimization-works/).
6. **Measure Your AI Visibility** Track how often ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews mention and cite your brand, with a fixed prompt set and repeated checks. The dedicated visibility tools below can collect those observations; our free [GEO visibility checker](https://www.strataigize.com/tools/geo-visibility/) provides a self-assessment and prompts for manual checks.

No tool covers the whole job. If you are weighing whether to run this in-house or hire it out, [what AI SEO services include and how to vet an agency](https://www.strataigize.com/insights/ai-seo-services/) sets out the six workstreams a complete scope covers. And if the acronyms in the proposals are the confusing part, our comparison of answer engine optimization (AEO), generative engine optimization (GEO), and classic SEO [sorts out which of the three you are actually buying](https://www.strataigize.com/insights/aeo-vs-geo-vs-seo/).

Combine these approaches and you protect the visibility you have while search itself turns AI-first.

## 14 Best AI SEO Tools You Should Use

### 1\. Surfer SEO - Content + AI for On-Page Wins

**Pricing:** Discovery is advertised at $49/month billed yearly. Higher plans and AI visibility features have separate allowances and prices; compare them on [Surfer’s pricing page](https://surferseo.com/pricing/).

Surfer combines NLP algorithms with content optimization. Enter a keyword and it benchmarks your draft against top-performing pages. Its AI-driven recommendations help you cover semantic gaps.

**Best use case:** Writing long-form blogs optimized for **artificial intelligence search engine optimization** queries.

**What I Like:** The Content Editor with NLP support has been especially useful, as I’ve found that Surfer helps me spot semantic gaps I might otherwise miss, nudging me to include related phrases and entities so my articles come out context-rich rather than keyword-stuffed.

AI-generated drafts can give an editor a starting point. Verify the claims and sources before treating a faster draft as finished work.

I also appreciate the intuitive UI; navigating between SERP analysis, content auditing, and optimization feels smooth, and as someone managing multiple client sites, having consistent workflows is a real advantage.

That said, there are downsides: sometimes the tool encourages copying structural patterns too closely, which risks making the writing feel repetitive, and the costs can ramp up quickly at scale.

### 2\. Clearscope - Semantic SEO at Scale

Clearscope scans top-ranking content and generates semantic recommendations. Its strength lies in making sure your content matches user intent.

**Pricing**: Essentials is $129/month and Business is $399/month, with Enterprise by quote. See [Clearscope’s pricing page](https://www.clearscope.io/pricing).

**What I Like**: I like how Clearscope takes the guesswork out of semantic coverage. When I refresh older blogs, it quickly shows me which terms I’ve overlooked. It’s like having a coach who reminds me, “Here’s what your audience expects to see.” The content scores also give me confidence before hitting publish.

**Best use case:** Refreshing older blogs that are losing visibility.

### 3\. Jasper - AI Writing Assistant

Jasper speeds up content production by generating human-like text aligned with SEO goals. You can feed it brand voice, tone, and SERP insights.

**Pricing**: The Pro plan is $69/month, or $59/month billed annually, as of 2026. There is no free plan, just a 7-day trial, and business plans are custom-quoted. See [Jasper’s pricing page](https://www.jasper.ai/pricing).

**What I Like**: Jasper feels like having a brainstorming partner. I like using it for first drafts because it adapts to brand voice better than most AI tools I’ve tried. It doesn’t eliminate editing, but it cuts the intimidation of a blank page. For product descriptions, it saves me hours.

**Best use case:** Scaling product descriptions and FAQ pages.

### 4\. Copy.ai - Rapid Content Prototyping

Copy.ai is useful for brainstorming outlines, ad copy, and quick SEO snippets. It has repositioned itself as a broader go-to-market AI platform, but the core copy tools remain.

**Pricing**: Chat is $29/month or $24/month billed as $288 yearly. Workflow and enterprise offerings are separate. The current page does not substantiate the old 2,000-word free plan we previously listed. See [Copy.ai’s pricing page](https://www.copy.ai/prices).

**What I Like**: I love how lightweight Copy.ai feels. It’s fast, simple, and great for those little SEO tasks, like meta descriptions or ad copy, that eat up time. For me, it’s less about writing entire articles and more about rapid-fire ideation.

**Best use case:** Meta descriptions and short-form SEO copy.

### 5\. MarketMuse - AI Content Strategy

Beyond optimizing individual posts, MarketMuse helps shape your whole content strategy.

**Pricing**: The Free plan includes one user and 10 queries per month. Paid Optimize, Research and Strategy plans require a sales conversation; the current page does not publish their prices. See [MarketMuse’s pricing page](https://www.marketmuse.com/pricing/).

**What I Like**: MarketMuse helps me see the big picture. I like how it suggests content clusters and shows me where my site has gaps. When I’m planning quarterly strategies, it gives me data-driven confidence about where to invest resources.

**Best use case:** Identifying clusters around high-value keywords like _AI and SEO_.

### 6\. Frase - Answer Engine Optimization

Frase analyzes search queries and automates FAQ-rich, intent-based content.

**Pricing**: Starter is $49/month or $39/month billed annually, with a free trial. See [Frase’s pricing page](https://www.frase.io/pricing).

**What I Like**: I like that Frase is built around user intent. When I use it, I feel like I’m building content that answers questions directly rather than just stuffing in keywords. It’s especially handy for capturing “People Also Ask” queries.

**Best use case:** Capturing voice search traffic and “People Also Ask” queries.

### 7\. Semrush - Competitive AI Insights

Semrush remains the closest thing to an all-in-one SEO platform, and its AI layer has grown fast: Copilot surfaces automated recommendations across your projects, ContentShake AI drafts optimized articles, and its newer AI toolkit tracks how your brand shows up inside AI-generated answers.

**Pricing**: The SEO package is $139/month, or $117.33/month billed annually. Starter, combining SEO and AI visibility, is $199/month, or $165.17/month billed annually. Check which toolkit is included on [Semrush’s pricing page](https://www.semrush.com/prices/).

**What I Like**: I like that I can go from keyword clustering to competitor gap analysis to rank tracking without switching tools. Copilot’s AI recommendations save me a weekly review session, and the AI visibility reporting lets me show clients how they appear in ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews, not just the classic SERPs.

**Best use case:** Competitor analysis and keyword clustering in one platform.

### 8\. Ahrefs - AI-Enhanced Link Analysis

Ahrefs’ link data now integrates AI recommendations to help prioritize backlink outreach, and its Brand Radar add-on extends the platform into AI visibility, tracking brand mentions in AI Overviews and chat assistants.

**Pricing**: Starts at $129/month for Lite as of 2026, with Standard at $249/month; see [Ahrefs’ pricing page](https://ahrefs.com/pricing).

**What I Like**: I’ve always trusted Ahrefs for backlink intelligence. What I like now is how AI prioritizes opportunities. Instead of staring at endless lists of domains, I can zero in on the ones that matter.

**Best use case:** Finding hidden authority-building opportunities.

### 9\. RankIQ - AI for Bloggers

Built for bloggers, RankIQ uses AI to suggest topics with low competition but high potential.

**Pricing**: The site advertises a $49/month offer combining RankIQ and Aided Unlimited. Treat that as an offer with its own terms, rather than a permanent price for the old Pro and Agency tiers. See [RankIQ’s site](https://www.rankiq.com/).

**What I Like**: I like RankIQ because it feels built for real people, not just SEO pros. Its keyword library is great for discovering “hidden gem” topics. I’ve seen traffic gains just by updating older posts with its recommendations.

**Best use case:** Solo creators or small businesses.

### 10\. Scalenut - AI Topic Clustering

Scalenut generates content hubs around strategic keyword clusters, aligning with **artificial intelligence SEO** practices.

**Pricing**: Starter is $59/month on monthly billing, with a 7-day free trial, verified September 5, 2026. Annual offers vary; see [Scalenut’s pricing page](https://www.scalenut.com/pricing).

**What I Like**: I like Scalenut because it makes building content hubs less overwhelming. I’ve used it to organize entire clusters, and it’s satisfying to see everything mapped out clearly. It’s especially powerful for quickly building topical authority.

**Best use case:** Building topical authority fast.

### 11\. Profound - Enterprise AI Search Visibility

Profound defines the newest category on this list. It tracks how ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and other answer engines describe, mention, and cite your brand, then shows which sources power those answers so you know exactly what to optimize.

**Pricing**: Starter is $99/month billed yearly and tracks ChatGPT. Growth is $399/month billed yearly; Enterprise is custom-priced. Compare engine coverage and prompt allowances on [Profound’s pricing page](https://www.tryprofound.com/pricing).

**What I Like**: Profound answers the question every client now asks: “What does ChatGPT say about us?” Seeing which citations drive AI answers about a brand turns generative engine optimization from guesswork into a prioritized to-do list.

**Best use case:** Enterprise brands running a serious GEO program.

### 12\. Otterly.AI - Affordable AI Search Monitoring

Otterly.AI monitors your target prompts across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews, tracking brand mentions, link citations, and sentiment over time. It is one of the most affordable entry points into AI search monitoring.

**Pricing**: Lite is $29/month or $25/month billed annually; Standard and Premium have larger prompt allowances. See [Otterly.AI’s pricing page](https://otterly.ai/pricing).

**What I Like**: I like that Otterly works like rank tracking for AI answers: pick the prompts that matter to your business, then watch weekly whether you are cited, who gets cited instead, and where the answers source their claims.

**Best use case:** Small and mid-size teams starting AI visibility tracking.

### 13\. ChatGPT - Custom SEO Workflows

With the right prompts, ChatGPT becomes your personal **AI search engine optimization** analyst. OpenAI retired the old plugin system back in 2024, and its replacements are stronger: custom GPTs for repeatable SEO workflows, built-in web search, and deep research for competitive analysis.

**Pricing**: A free tier is available. ChatGPT Plus is $20/month, and Pro starts at $100/month with higher usage options. See [OpenAI’s pricing page](https://openai.com/chatgpt/pricing/).

**What I Like**: What I enjoy most is the flexibility. I’ve used custom GPTs for everything from internal linking audits to competitive briefs, and deep research to summarize who currently owns a SERP. It feels like having a customizable assistant who adapts to whatever SEO problem I’m tackling that day.

**Best use case:** Data summaries, briefs, and content workflows.

For repeatable workflows, test prompts against examples of acceptable output and recheck the results after model changes.

### 14\. Google Gemini - Optimizing for AI-First Search

Google has pushed AI into the heart of search: AI Overviews now sit on top of a huge share of queries, and AI Mode offers a fully conversational search experience. The Gemini app and Google Search are different products. Use each as its own observation surface; an answer in Gemini does not prove inclusion in AI Overviews or AI Mode.

**Pricing**: The Gemini app has a free tier; the Google AI Pro plan runs about $19.99/month as of 2026, with an Ultra tier for heavy use. See [Google’s plan page](https://one.google.com/about/google-ai-plans/).

**What I Like**: I like Gemini because it shows me where Google search is heading. Running client queries through Gemini and AI Mode forces me to think about entity coverage and question-first structure, not just where a blue link ranks today.

**Best use case:** Experimenting with Generative Engine Optimization strategies.

## What a Visibility Tracker Actually Returns, From Nineteen Weeks of Running One

Step 6 above tells you to measure AI visibility with a fixed prompt set and repeated checks. We do, so here is what that produces, because no vendor page will show you this part.

We run a fixed set of 23 prompts weekly against strataigize.com through Mangools’ AI Search Watcher, United States, English, and have done since 19 May 2026. Across the six weekly observations from 18 August to 12 September 2026 the tool reported these visibility scores: 12.7, 13.2, 17.8, 19.6, 18.1, 15.3. Mean cited position over the same weeks moved between 2.0 and 5.1.

**Read that sequence again, because it is the finding.** The site did not change character between 18 August and 1 September, and the score moved almost seven points. It then gave back four. Any single weekly reading from a tool in this category carries several points of noise, which means a week-on-week move is not a result and a month-on-month move is barely one. If you buy one of these and report the first number you get to a client or a board, you will eventually have to explain a drop that never happened.

Two other things the run taught us that the category pages do not say:

- **The prompt set is the instrument, and you are building it.** Our 23 prompts are the questions a buyer actually types, from “What are the best generative engine optimization agencies?” to “Is there a free tool to test if a website is mobile friendly now that Google retired its test?”. Change the set and you change the score, so a score is only comparable to itself. There is no industry baseline to benchmark against, whatever the marketing implies.
- **Location is a hard split, not a filter.** We run a second monitor for Canada because the same prompts return materially different answers by market, and averaging the two would hide the thing you are trying to see.

None of this makes the category useless. Repeated, same-instrument observation is the only way to see a trend at all, and the trend is what you act on. It does mean the honest unit of measurement is a multi-week direction, not a weekly number, and that is the standard we hold our own reporting to.

For the underlying method rather than the tool, we publish our own citation baseline separately: 25 runs per prompt, 750 answers per pull across ChatGPT and Perplexity, with a Wilson interval on every rate. The unbranded number in that baseline is 7 of 600, which is the work ahead rather than a win, and it is on the page because a buyer choosing a partner should see the measurement run on us first.

## FAQ

### What is the best AI SEO tool in 2026?

There is no single winner: Surfer SEO or Clearscope for content optimization, Semrush or Ahrefs for research at scale, and Profound or Otterly.AI if the goal is visibility inside AI answers. Start from the job you need done, then pick one tool per job.

### What are AI search visibility tools?

They track how AI assistants and answer engines such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews mention, cite, and describe your brand. Traditional rank trackers cannot see inside those answers, which is why this category grew so fast through 2025 and 2026.

### Do AI SEO tools replace an SEO strategy?

No. They accelerate execution: research, drafting, optimization, and measurement. Positioning, topical authority, and technical foundations still decide whether search engines and AI answers trust your site.

### How is GEO different from traditional SEO?

SEO optimizes for ranked lists of links; generative engine optimization (GEO) optimizes for being cited and recommended inside AI-generated answers. The two overlap heavily, and strong SEO fundamentals remain the base layer for GEO.

## Start With the Job, Then Buy the Tool

**Artificial intelligence SEO** accelerates execution and keeps you current with how search works; it does not replace a strategy. Name the job first. The subscription is the easy part.
