Technical SEO.

Definition

The canonical answer.

Technical SEO is the engineering layer of search visibility: crawlability, indexation, rendering, redirects, canonical URLs, sitemaps, structured data, and page speed. It does not create demand; it removes the failures that silently waste the demand a site has already earned.

Worked example

In practice.

A site migration leaves duplicate URLs, self-canonical errors on paginated archives, and a sitemap listing dead pages. Rankings sag with no content change. A technical pass reconciles canonicals, regenerates the sitemap from real routes, fixes redirect chains, and recovers positions without publishing a single new page.
