The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to external tools and data through a common interface, so one integration serves many AI clients. For businesses it is the plumbing of agent readiness: exposing capabilities to AI systems safely instead of per-assistant custom code.

A company exposes a bounded set of actions through an MCP server: check availability, request an audit, read public pricing. Any MCP-capable assistant can then act on the business without bespoke integration, and the server enforces authentication and limits rather than trusting each client.
